West Coast
California
- Huntington Dog Beach (Huntington Beach) is one of the most vibrant beaches for dogs. It is one of the few Southern California beaches with a true off-leash policy. Community, it’s so cool that you have to leash the dog in the parking lot and on the upper bluff. That’s because of squirrels, birds, dogs, and other distractions that your dog may react to.
- Coronado Dog Beach (Coronado): directly across from Sunset Park on Ocean Boulevard, is a leash-free area on the western shore; dogs must be leashed when entering/exiting because of the traffic. Parking is also free in the surrounding areas. There are also pet-friendly hotels nearby.
- Ocean Beach Dog Beach (San Diego) is one of the first off-leash dog beaches in the U.S. The Sandy area North of Lifeguard Tower 5 is a dog beach. Remember, there is no lifeguard there, so be careful.
- Del Mar Dog Beach (Del Mar, near San Diego): Leash needs to be there during summer since it’s crowded, dogs are allowed to be off-leash under “voice command” from Labor Day through Memorial Day. Also, dogs must wear a license on their collars.
- Rosie’s Dog Beach (Long Beach): Between Granada Avenue and Roycroft Avenue lies 4.1 acres of Rosie’s Dog Beach. Dogs are welcome off-leash from 6am to 8pm, which are Dog Zone hours. Only one dog per adult, and the dog should always be under the owner’s command.

- Jupiter Dog Beach (Jupiter) is a 2.5-mile stretch of beach from beach marker #26 at Marcinski Road going north to beach marker #57, which is a dog beach. Only non-aggressive dogs are welcome.
- Clearwater North Beach: Dogs are allowed only in the north section of the beach, starting at Somerset Street. Dogs should be leased, and South of Somerset doesn’t allow any pets.

- Carolina Burkes Beach (Hilton Head Island): beautiful Beaches are very dog-friendly until 10 am and after 5pm from April through September. Your canine should be on leash or voice command during this time.
- Folly Beach and Isle of Palms (Charleston area): Both are dog-friendly. On Folly Beach, dogs are allowed only on leash and must always be in control. May to September is the best time for Dogs to roam around the beach from 10 am to 6 pm. If you are visiting the Isle of Palms and don’t want to put your dog on a leash, then the best time to visit is from April 1 to September 14, 5am to 9am, and from September 15 to March 31, 4pm to 10am. The rest of the time, dogs should be on leash.
Georgia
- St. Simons Island: St. Simons Island beach, or East Beach, is a beautiful beach destination in Georgia. Dogs are prohibited on this beach from Memorial Day through Labor Day between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. They are allowed to roam free on the beach without a leash.
Mid-Atlantic
Virginia
- First Landing State Park (Virginia Beach): Here, dogs are always welcome but must be on leash no longer than 6 feet. While visiting the beach, you can also go with your canine friend on numerous hiking trail adventures.
- Sandy Paws Dog Beach (Cape Charles): There is an off-leash area in the northern end of the private beach. There is also a dog park near the beach where your dog can run around and play.
Delaware
- Dewey Beach: It’s one of Delaware’s most dog-friendly beaches. But before bringing a dog to the beach you need to purchase a Dewey Beach dog license. There are different options for a dog license like a temporary one for 3 or 8 days and a lifetime dog license.
- Fenwick Island State Park: Pet-friendly beach with three miles of ocean shoreline (dogs prohibited May 1–September 30)
Maryland
- Assateague National Seashore (Berlin): dogs allowed on the Maryland portion of the beach outside lifeguard-protected areas that to on leash; must be on a 6-foot leash. Dogs are not allowed on any nature trails.
New Jersey
- 8th Avenue Dog Beach (Asbury Park): If you dog is well-behaved then they are allowed off-leash from May 16–September 14, from 6 PM to 8:30 AM.
- Wildwood Dog Park and Beach: Located between Glenwood and Maple Avenues here Dogs are allowed on the beach with a leash and in the park without.

Massachusetts

Rhode Island
